Baby/mama status
We are now 24 weeks along (6 months). In just three weeks, we'll be in the third trimester! I can't believe how quickly this is moving along.
First of all, I am becomming huge. I've reached the point where I look pregnant, and strangers aren't afraid to ask how far along I am.
The baby measures approximately 8 inches long and weighs about 1 1/4 pounds. I feel him moving around a little, but not too much yet. He mostly moves around right after I eat dinner. It doesn't feel like kicks, just movement.
I was surprised to learn he only weighs a little over a pound now. I feel like I am carrying a bowling ball! It started about 3 days ago, where it just felt uncomfortable to be in certain positions because he felt so heavy. I'm reminding myself that I have over 3 months to go and will only get bigger!
The weird thing about being pregnant is the way that people look at me now. I get nice (empathy?) smiles from strangers (usually women) and often, looks of amusement from men. Yes, amusement. Granted, these looks mostly come from young "men" age 18-24. I am still in school (in a grad program at CSUS) so when I go to the library, I see a lot of younger college guys. I was actually sitting at a computer once when I looked over and saw a small group of guys giggling and looking my way. It could have been my imagination, but after receiving other funny looks from guys/boys, I don't think so...
When, exactly, do men grow up?
But seriously, all is going very well. We have only about 110 days left!

Ok. So it feels weird spouting off on the website, so I've created a new board for WAR chat. All are welcome and encouraged. Nobody is totally right and nobody is totally wrong and perhaps we can keep this as civil as possible. Elaine and Carol and Gene and Dave need to use your names. Mom and Dad would be too confusing. If nobody uses it, that's cool too, it don't make me no never mind, but I would love to get a dialog going about this.

I tried for a couple months to get a commenting perl script to work and couldn't so I gave up, but I just found a decent comment site so now YOU can comment on each one of our posts again. And I really hope that you do. We loved to read your impressions when we first started this site. Thanks.

One more thing, you don't have to give your email address or even your last name when you post. We really don't want that stuff floating around generating more spam.

Kevin Sites Blog looks like it could be an interesting source of information. He is a CNN WAR correspondent who is doing a little blog on the side. Hopefully he will be slipping some UNCENSORED WAR stories.

Status of 20 week ultrasound picts
You may have noticed the only ultrasound picts posted on the site are from a time when the baby looked like a peanut... that's the baby at 12 weeks. Well, being the over-protective parents we seem to have become, we wanted to put our new 20 week picts in a safe place, so we chose such a safe, secure place that we can't find them now.
I'm a little embarassed to admit this.
As long as we don't ever put the actual baby in this "safe" place, we should be OK.
Anyway, I was able to get slides of the ultrasound picts from the radiology tech, but they look more like negatives than pictures. We'll have to figure out how to scan them and make them look decent enough to view on the web page. The clarity doesn' t seem as good as the first set we received, for some reason.
But overall I'm happy we got these slides. I forgot how cute Evan is! I got all excited when I saw the picture of his leg. It's a nice leg, well developed. He'll probably have his daddy's legs, and long. And his little profile is so cute. He has a nose and everything!
He's really kicking harder lately. It's a nice reminder throughout the day that there are more important things than whatever it is I'm working on.
Everything is going well on my end. I feel good except for my excessive cravings for sugar and dreams about girl scout cookies. I fear I may be quickly approaching rapid weight gain, but I hear the metabolism speeds up during pregnancy, so that may be my saving grace.

I got the best birthday gift tonight. I felt Evan move for the first time. I felt him poke and shuffle, basically shadow boxing in there and I got this quick vision of a baby Sylvester Stallone as Rocky preparing for Clubber Lang. "And in this uterus..." I don't know how A is going to make it. I hope she won't get too uncomfortable.

That gas-like feeling
For the last two weeks I was sure I was having some digestive issues, but I finally figured out this is the baby moving around! It doesn't feel exactly like "butterflies" or "fluttering" as others had described to me. It just feels like... stuff moving around. Anyway, I'm very excited! He seems to move the most before I fall asleep and when I wake up, and right after I eat (so I'm feeling him pretty much all the time then.)
I keep tapping back after he kicks, hoping to get a little game going, but I think it may be too soon for that.
