Evan's fun at the river

This weekend, it was in the triple digits. We went to Discovery Park in Sacramento, which is where the Sacramento and American rivers meet. We took Evan to the shore (if you can call it that), and he had no fear in running as fast as he could into the water (with me holding his hands, of course). He loved it. At one point, he let himself fall face-forward into the water.
Part of the water had an inlet of sand, and we walked to that area, where a previous kid had dug a huge hole in the sand. That hole had filled up with water. Evan plopped himself down into that miniature lake, and had a blast. He sat in the middle and splashed, and played with an old straw he found, and then got up and grabbed fistfulls of sand which he threw into his mini-lake many times. We had so much fun.

Imitation
Evan's imitating everything we do. Jerry swept the balcony, so Evan grabbed a make-shift broom (my Swiffer), and pretended to sweep also. He loves the vacuum sweeper, and cries whenever we put it away. He's also starting to listen to our requests (as in, "bring me the remote control")... He tried to put his shoe on the other day (by putting his foot on top of the shoe and then grunting). I would put it on him, and then he'd take it off and want me to put it back on.

Evan's 1-yr checkup

Checkup with Dr. Bloom -- Evan's lost a lot of his baby fat. After being in the 75th-95th percentiles for weight, he's now in the 50th percentile, at just over 22 pounds. He's also in the 50th percentile for height at 29 1/2 inches. His head is big though -- 75th percentile. Full of brains.

He had his first haircut last week. The red hair was growing up and over his ears, and was long in the back and on top of his head, with a ring of old-man baldness around the sides. We evened it out a lot. He sat on my lap and did pretty well -- no crying. I think he did so well because Jerry taped him with the camcorder, and Evan was fascinated by it.

Today he kept himself busy by putting things into other things. He took one my shirts out of the chest of drawers, then put it into other drawers. Then he took it back out and put it in another drawer. This kept him busy for a good 15 minutes while I made dinner. Then he took Jerry's shirt out and mopped the kitchen floor with it, then put it back in the drawer.
