Isaac batted at a toy today
Isaac was swinging in his baby swing and looking very intently at his arch toy in front of him. From the arch hangs a couple black and white toys with interesting designs on them. He was looking at them with great concentration and his left arm was waving out in front of him. I wasn't sure if it was intentional or not, so I stopped the swing and put the hanging toy within his reach. Sure enough, he continued to bat with his left hand and hit the toy maybe 5 times, each time making it swing back toward him. Not only were his eyes very focused, but his lips were all relaxed and puckery, and many spit bubbles were escaping. Babies.

All day long I'm putting out toddler fires... breaking up fights, returning toys to original owners, redirecting naughtiness... and then I look down at little Isaac and whisper to him that he's my easy angel baby. He sleeps on his own, wakes up and contentedly looks around for a long time, eats, looks around some more, and falls asleep. He rarely cries. He's terribly sweet.

He sleeps through the night. Usually he is down at 10:00 and has his first feeding around 5:00. :)

Evanisms
I told Evan that once he poops in the potty, he can have the new trains he has had his eye on. Later that day...
Evan: Evan poop.
Me: Ok, let's go to the potty!
I get there and realize he has already pooped.
Me: Oh, you need to go poop in the potty.
Evan, patting his diaper: Evan pour?

Evan is brushing his teeth, and becomes distracted by Salty the train.
Evan: Evan brush Salty teeth?
Salty later has bubbles all over his mouth.

Evan receives gum for brushing his teeth (defeats the purpose, I know). I give him strict instruction to keep the gum in his mouth and put it in the garbage can when done.
Evan: Evan want more gum.
Me: Where is your gum?
Evan: Kramer ate it.
Me: Evan, cats don't like gum.
Evan: Kramer at it all. Kramer choke. Mommy, come see.
I find the cat sleeping soundly in the window seat. A few days later I find a piece of gum stuck to the window cushion.

Evan walks into the kitchen and whines.
Me: What's wrong?
Evan, with furrowed brow, pointing at feet: Feet.
Me: I know, the floor is dirty.
Evan: Mommy, sweep feet.

Evan and Isaac and I are lying on the bed together, reading books before Evan's naptime. Isaac starts to fuss and cry, but doesn't want to eat. I am trying different ways to console him.
Evan, looking concerned: Here, Isaac. Have tumb.
Evan sticks his own thumb into Isaac's mouth (and Isaac does not object).

More Evanisms

Evan and I are walking out to the car.
Evan: Evan drive.
Me: No, Evan can drive when he's bigger.
Evan (putting arms high up over his head): Evan bigger!

Jerry, Evan, Isaac and I are walking into Home Depot, and Evan wants to be carried.
Me: No, Evan, you are a big boy. You need to walk.
Evan: No Evan big boy. Evan small.

Evan and I are leaving the bagel place, and he sees a storm drain.
Evan: Look! Raursaurs live there.
Me: Dinosaurs live in there? Oh no!
Evan: Yeah. Careful. Raursoars hurt. Ouch.

I am driving, and Evan is pointing out all the trucks from the backseat.
Evan: Look! Truck! Daddy juice.
I look and it's a Coke distribution truck.

I am driving, Evan is in the backseat, and as I near an intersection he lets out a blood-curdling scream.
Me: What?!?
Evan: Mommy! Signs. Signal. Watch out. Crash. Toooooo fast! Beee careful.
I decide then to limit his viewing of Thomas and Friends on TV.

Isaac 2 month Dr. appointment

Isaac had his 2-month Dr. appointment. He's grown over 4 lbs in over 2 months. Here are his stats:
Height: 23 1/2" (75th percentile)
Weight: 13 lbs, 6 1/2 oz (70th percentile)
Head circumference: 15 3/4" (50th percentile)

He spends about 5 minutes every morning smiling at me and holding eye contact. It's so sweet. He has also started "standing" on his legs and bouncing up and down a little. One of his favorite things to do is stare at the lines on his swing while it's in motion, which was Evan's favorite pasttime. He's still a pretty easy baby. I've started putting him down in his bassinet once he's been awake for a couple hours, and it seems to have reduced his fussiness.

I'm feeling much better about the daycare. I was really, extremely burned out, but I now close one hour earlier, and I'm letting the kids play outside a lot more (like 3 hours a day), and that's made a huge difference. I'm so glad it's warm. They play in the sand for hours sometimes, and we also play with buckets of water. Good times.

Evanisms
Evan (playing with tractor): Look mommy, roarsaur
Me: Oh, a dinosaur!
Evan (putting a small car inside the tractor's scooper): Look, mommy, baby roarsaur.
Me: Oh, that's great.
Evan (looking very sad): Baby roarsaur crying... Wants daddy.

Evan (after receiving an M&M for peeing on the potty, lying on tummy on the window seat cushion, looking lovingly at his candy, talking in extremely high-pitched voice): Hi blue candy, Hi blue candy! [more contemplation, still looking at candy]: I looove you!

Evan (sitting on couch w/ me, holding a chunk of my hair out in a straight line, with half of the hair hunk hanging straight down): Look, mommy! Cranky Crane.
Me: Oh, is that a crane?
Evan (holding hair out in straight line): Look, mommy, train tracks.
