Did he just say that?

Evan has entered a whole new realm of sassy. Some examples.
Me: Evan, put your boots away please.
Evan: No, I don't want to.
Me: Yes, now please.
Evan: Mommy, don't argue with me.
Me: I'm not arguing. I'm the mommy, so I get to say that.
Evan: Your voice doesn't sound very nice. I don't like that.
Me: Put your boots away now!
Evan: I need you to stop arguing right now.
Me: If your boots are still out in three seconds, you will be in a time-out.
Evan: Oh, oh, look! I be nice! I am putting away my boots now. See, mommy?

And...
Jerry: Evan, bring your coat in from the car, please.
Evan: No. You do it, daddy.
Jerry: Now!
Evan: Oh, oh, I do it daddy!

And...
Evan: No, I don't want to do that.
Me: Evan, you are arguing. We do time-outs for arguing.
Evan: Mommy, I'm not arguing. I'm just talking.
Me: You are talk-arguing.
Evan: Oh, I sorry. I be nice now. Look! I'm nice!

Isaac's learning that things have a purpose.
He put the phone up to Jerry's ear.
He grabbed the remote control and pointed it at the TV.
He constantly tries to feed me really soggy food, recently removed from his mouth. He takes it and pushes really hard against my very-closed lips.
He started to drop food on the floor and I said "no" while shaking my head. He then started to shake his head.
We have been doing the sign language symbol for "more," which looks a little like clapping (finger tips come together repeatedly). We do it in between bites of food. He has started clapping when he wants more, which I think is his attempt to do this (that's how Evan did it too).
He crawled away from me, turned around, waved, and then continued on his way down the hall.
He knows we don't want him playing in the entertainment center. A few days ago he went to open the door, stopped, and looked back at me guiltily as if to say, "are you gonna stop me?" That's the first time I've ever seen this expression of guilt on his face.

Merry Christmas!
Some video...

We had a great Christmas. It was most definitely a white Christmas. A very cold, wet, white Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, Evan and mommy made cookies for Santa. He did the frosting and sprinkles himself.

Here is our tree after Santa's visit.

Next to the wrapping paper, Isaac's favorite gift was his learning table.

Evan pretended at first to love his puzzle, but he hasn't touched it since.

That might be because Santa got him a bike, which he was only allowed to ride indoors for about 2 minutes, because of said snow outside.

Isaac got a bunch of books

Isaac also received this cute shirt, but he cried because I put him down when he wanted to be held

I asked Evan to smile, but instead he pouted. In fact, as the day went on, it was obvious both boys were overstimulated. Good thing Santa had already come!

Isaac 9 months

Isaac is like a new baby now. He is so interactive. First off, he imitates everything Evan does. Some examples:

* Evan splashes in the tub, and Isaac goes crazy, kicking his legs and arms. Water goes everywhere.

* Evan plays on the drum, and Isaac will use his arms to quickly and feverishly pat his own legs.

* Both of the boys have colds with coughs, so Jerry made a huge bed on the floor downstairs so everyone could sleep together (I stayed upstairs since my shift was over). During the night, Evan would let out this horribly wet, raspy cough, and then Isaac, in his sleep, would let out this delicate, tiny, fake cough. Raspy loud cough.... fake weak cough. Over and over.

* The daycare kids were running out back while making very annoying, high-pitched screams. Isaac did his own quiet version.

* Isaac was standing in his Jumperoo, not jumping in it as the toy intended. Then one of the daycare kids started jumping in front of him, and then he was jumping and laughing hysterically.

He has started playing with us.
* I wanted to give him his pacifier, so I made it fly through the air and made airplane noises. Finally it made its way to his mouth. He then pulled it out, made very faint airplane noises, and tried to stick it in my mouth. How cute is that?!?!

* While he was in his high chair, I put a Cheerio in his mouth. He then picked up a Cheerio with his wet fingers, and tried to put it in my mouth. I made loud eating noises and pretended to eat it. He laughed. Then he saw that it was still in between his fingers, so he attempted again to put it in my mouth. I pretended to loudly eat it again, and I let it fall out of his fingers onto the tray. Seeing his empty fingers, he looked satisfied.

* He hands us toys.

* When he crawls, he often has a small car or train in one hand. Like he owns it.

Last weekend, his second baby tooth popped up. It also looks sharp and crooked - very cute.

When he plays, he often comes back to "base" (me), stands up to me, puts his open mouth on my cheek while saying "ahhhhh" and then returns to playing. Awww. So sweet.

He waves goodbye and claps. When he waves, sometimes he uses the arm that can't be seen by the person he is waving to. Other times he doesn't start moving those fingers until a minute after everyone else is done waving. When others wave at him, he looks around at everyone's hands like he is taking mental notes.

He started clapping. Sometimes his fingers aren't quite straight enough, but it is cute.

The morning after sleeping with Jerry and Evan, I was holding him, and he reached out for Jerry. Usually he is a total mama's boy and chooses me over anyone else (not bragging, just saying...). But I guess he remembered how much his daddy comforted him when he was sick.

Evan... almost 3 1/2
I cannot believe he is almost 3.5, which means he is almost almost 4. Officially the end of his babyhood. Makes me sad and happy at the same time.

Evan is so sweet and sensitive. The other night we decided I would put Evan to bed, even though Jerry normally does it. I told Evan I was putting him to bed and he said he wanted daddy to do it. He said, "I miss daddy. I want my daddy to do it, mommy," in sort of a mean way. I looked very sad and got quiet. He came over to me and said, "oh, oh, oh, I sorry mommy. I sorry I said that. You can do it!"

He has formed a serious attachment with a stuffed donkey that Jerry bought him. Yesterday when I gave Evan lunch, he said, "donkey wants some crackers, too." And when I put him in his car seat, he said, "put donkey in the seat, too. He needs to stay safe." (I pulled a leg through the belt to keep him safe.) As we were walking through the store parking lot, he said, "don't worry, donkey, I will hold onto you so you don't get hit by a car." Every time he had to go potty or do something without donkey, he would retrieve him and say, "Oh, I sorry I left you, donkey. I won't leave you again."

Evanisms
Evan: Mommy, I don't want to get small and go into your tummy again. Cuz, I scared of your food.

Later...
Evan (playing at the table): [bang, bang, bang]
Jerry: Um, how old are you again?
Evan: Three.
Jerry: You are too old to be playing at the table. When you're three, you can act nice at the table.
Evan: Oh. I be two again?

During the daycare...
Evan (to daycare girl): Girl, will you sleep with me? And cuddle with me? In my bed?
Girl: Yes!!
They then pretended to sleep under a blanket.

The story about his forehead
I completely forgot to post about Evan's forhead. We had received a ton of snow a couple weeks ago (well, maybe only 4-6"), but it was freezing and windy outside, so I kept the kids inside. This resulted in them bouncing off the walls, running and screaming in the house. I had just finished giving a few of them time-outs for not listening and running in the house. Evan was the first to not listen, and started running again. He tripped on the couch cushion, flew through the air, and landed forhead-first on the corner of the fireplace.

There was much blood and I tried not to freak out. I put in a 911 call because there was so much blood. The paramedics asked him some questions to make sure he didn't have a concussion, and Evan said things like, "Thomas is my favorite toy. He is number 1. And Henry is number 3. He is the green train." So he was fine, just needed stitches.

At the hospital, they had to first rinse out the wound to clean it. This freaked him out. He hates water in his eyes. Then they took a huge needle and thread and started sewing him up - 3 internal stitches. It grossed Jerry and I out completely. Evan was calm for awhile, then cried. At the end, they covered it with purple "glue" that acts like stitches for the outside of the skin. It dissolves on its own.

As we were leaving the hospital, Jerry asked Evan if he wanted his coat on. Evan said, "no, I just pulling my underwear out of my butt." So he was fine.

Later, when asked what happened, he would say, "I ran in the house and hit the corner. They put water on my head and it got into my eyes! It hurt me!" That's the only part that seems to have traumatized him.
